Position Summary
• Lead Automation projects of various complexity from defining automation requirements through production implementation to attain high levels of product quality and automation reliability.
• Develop hardware and software solutions to maintain functionality of current automated manufacturing equipment.
• Represent Teleflex in related supplier relationships.
Principal Responsibilities
• Provide product design input from the automation perspective.
• Understand product and process details to develop effective User Requirements Specification (URS) documentation that considers needs of the product/process, anticipated production volumes, component and material variability, COGs, Process Capability, EHS requirements, Process Controls and others.
• Identify and determine automation suppliers that are best suited for the requirements of each project.
• Lead the quotation and supplier selection process for each project ensuring that the requirements in the URS are attained.
• Manage the supplier relationships for the duration of each project. This includes design reviews, Factory Acceptance Testing, and equipment delivery and installation, qualification and process validation in our manufacturing plants.
• Develop strategy for ongoing machine reliability considering spare part needs and component obsolescence.
• Develop and implement documented procedures to provide easy to follow instructions for production of products meeting design specifications and requirements for each project.
• Develop and implement effective process controls for each project including but not limited to electronic data collection and SPC for both process inputs and outputs.
• Train equipment technicians, production operators, production engineers and manufacturing technicians.
• Manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Develop and maintain PLC code and machine interfaces.
• Provide guidance in machine troubleshooting and selection of electromechanical machine components.
• Understand of medical device assembly and common wire processing techniques.
• Communicate effectively with technical and operations counterparts to attain project deliverables.
Education / Experience Requirements
• BA/BS in Engineering or physical sciences required
• MS in Engineering or physical sciences preferred
• 5+ years of related experience required
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
• Demonstrated project management skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to understand and write PLC Code/logic.
• Effective communication and mentorship skills.
• Capability to perform process qualification and validation activities including risk assessment, range finding, DOE and process documentation.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to read, write and understand technical drawings, product requirements and specification documents.
• Must be capable of independent problem solving.
Preferred:
• General knowledge of Quality System methodologies and regulations associated with the medical device industry.
• Experience with AM/AT coating proc
• Background in developing mechanical and chemical manufacturing processes.
