Position Summary
Assist in research and development of combination technologies for new product application. Learn and employ strong use of techniques and scientific methods related to analytical chemistry area. Work towards acquiring skills needed to complete complex tasks and seek to build a professional network. The associate scientist conducts sample testing using established test methods, and participates in optimization of current methods, new method development, and smooth laboratory operation. The scientist may be required to work with potentially hazardous materials and/or disease-causing organisms and is expected to follow all laboratory safety guidelines. Ability to work both independently and in team environment is a must.
Principal Responsibilities
• HPLC operation through basic knowledge of chromatographic theory.
• Develop deeper understanding of HPLC systems to be able to recognize and address system performance issues, and perform routine preventative maintenance.
• With minimal guidance, execute experiments with high-quality standards including sample preparation, testing, data analysis, and transfer of data in engineering notebook, and performing literature searches.
• Participate in method optimization including sample preparation for isolating target analyte(s) in a complex matrix (biological fluids, salts, and polymers), new method development and equipment/method validation activities.
• With minimal supervision, design and execute experiments with high-quality standards including sample preparation & testing, statistical data analysis, and accurate transfer of data in engineering notebook, and performing literature searches when required.
• Compile experimental study reports, share findings with test requestors and present summarized results in technical meetings.
• Participate in peer review of data/reports, routine lab maintenance, inspections, organization, instrument calibrations.
• Support new product development projects when applicable through various design control activities which includes, but is not limited to, making and pre-conditioning of test samples for downstream processing and/or testing, and documentation.
• Perform testing and generate data to support patent filing, scientific posters & publications, marketing literature as required.
• Interface with vendors to obtain quotations and initiate purchase orders for lab supplies and equipment.
• Along with other Scientists, ensure that the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory maintains a clean appearance, adheres to general lab safety requirements, and remains compliant and operational.
• Good attention to details, organizational & multitasking skills, and ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written scientific observations in various team settings.
• Work effectively in core team/project team/cross-functional team environments to achieve desired results within the defined timelines.

Education / Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field such as chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or equivalent.
• 0-3 years in analytical chemistry laboratory in industrial or academic setting.
• Hands-on chromatography (HPLC) experience in a scientific setting.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
• Familiarity with chromatography software (Agilent ChemStation, Waters Empower)
• Knowledge of one of the following a bonus
o Physical and chemical characterization techniques including Spectroscopy (e.g., FTIR, UV/Vis, DSC, rheology, and Microscopy (Light, Fluorescence, SEM)
o Polymer chemistry
o Biology/Microbiology techniques
• Demonstrate strong analytical problem solving, communication skills, sense of urgency, and a willingness to take on additional responsibility
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of statistical analysis
