Position Summary
The Senior Accountant, Corporate & ESG Reporting is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of corporate financial records and supporting the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting initiatives. This role plays a key part in corporate accounting, SEC reporting, and the development of ESG disclosures in alignment with evolving global regulations. The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical accounting expertise, attention to detail, and interest in sustainability-related reporting.
This position reports to the Manager, Corporate Accounting & ESG Reporting and works cross-functionally with internal teams including Sustainability, Legal, and Investor Relations to support ESG compliance and reporting processes.
Principal Responsibilities
- Corporate Accounting & Financial Close
- Prepare and review journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and accruals to ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Assist in preparation of the monthly consolidated P&L and other internal financial reports.
- Perform accounting for complex corporate transactions, such as stock-based compensation, pensions, derivatives, and intercompany balances.
- SEC Filings & Financial Reporting
- Assist in the preparation and review of SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K), including drafting or reviewing footnote disclosures and supporting schedules.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations in all external financial reporting.
- ESG Reporting & Support
- Support ESG data collection, validation, and consolidation processes, including metrics related to climate risk, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, DEI, and other sustainability-related disclosures.
- Assist with the preparation of ESG disclosures for SEC filings and other external sustainability reports.
- Stay informed of developments in ESG regulatory standards including ESRS (CSRD), ISSB, and other emerging standards.
- Collaborate with ESG, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure alignment across internal reporting and corporate sustainability objectives.
- Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls
- Support internal and external audits, including those related to ESG data and disclosures.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance requirements across both financial and ESG reporting processes.
- Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify opportunities to enhance and automate accounting and ESG reporting processes.
- Participate in system implementations or upgrades related to general ledger or ESG data collection tools.
- Technical Research & Policy Implementation
- Research and apply U.S. GAAP and ESG reporting standards to complex transactions or disclosures.
- Assist with implementation of new accounting and ESG reporting policies as needed.
- Ad Hoc & Special Projects
- Contribute to special projects, such as sustainability assurance readiness, financial system enhancements, or cross-functional initiatives.
- Act as a key resource to leadership on technical accounting or ESG reporting topics.
Education / Experience Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. CPA certification or progress toward CPA is a plus.
- Experience: 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or corporate accounting. Experience with ESG reporting frameworks or sustainability disclosures is a plus.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
- Accounting Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ability to research and apply accounting standards.
- ESG Awareness: Familiarity with ESG disclosure frameworks such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP or CSRD preferred.
- Technology Proficiency: Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems (e.g., SAP, HFM), and strong Excel skills.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical and ESG topics clearly.
- Analytical Thinking: Detail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset and a proactive approach to identifying risks or process enhancements.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively across functions, supporting both financial reporting and sustainability-related objectives.
