Position Summary

Proactively lead the operations teams to successfully meet all key operational performance indicators for the Wallingford, CT site, including improving the culture, safety, quality, productivity and customer service metrics.  Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure teams are capable of meeting and exceeding performance requirements; manages performance and team dynamics to ensure that a fair, professional, and high-performance environment is present and aligned with company values.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Direct activity for full range of supply chain functions for the Wallingford operations including production, manufacturing engineering and EH&S while maintaining compliance with internal procedures, FDA regulations, ISO standards, OSHA, and other applicable local, state, and Federal regulations.
  • Organize, manage, and coordinate daily operations through supervisors for service and operational efficiencies. Coordinate efforts to attain service and performance commitments for accurate and on-time product receipt, storage, processing, and delivery. Supervise periodic reporting on operations, storage, staffing and labor, receipts, and maintenance. Training of supervisors and employees.
  • Establish, implement and review procedures relevant to efficient, safe, and accurate material flow activities and material movement procedures. Identify and implement statistical methods for measuring efficiency and conformance to standards. Review capacity trends and recommend long term increases/reductions. Maintain system of measuring KPIs within the department.
  • Drive continuous improvement through employee involvement and focused leadership.  Optimize profit by reducing costs through continuous improvement activities and achievement of commitments/targets for each functional area. Oversee preparation of cost control reports, cost estimates and staffing and facilities requirement forecasts. Provide instruction, guidance, and direction in solving production and quality problems, evaluation of process improvements and the initiation of cost reduction methods.  
  • Support and actively participate in operations strategy development and implementation.
  • Ensure that the workplace is fair and ethical, promoting employee morale.  Ensure all operations employees are effectively utilized through good communication and cross training.
  • Support the Supply Chain team by participating in the development and maintenance of product forecasts.  Utilize input from forecasted demand to develop accurate capacity plans (ramp up, ramp down) for needed people and equipment.
  • Fully support the Wallingford site quality system.  When assigned, ensure that corrective actions are effectively assigned and completed.
  • Other responsibilities assigned to support the operations as needed.

 

 

Education / Experience Requirements

 

  •    BA/BS in Engineering or Business Administration.
  •     5-10 years of operations experience, at least 3 years of direct supervision, working within an FDA regulated industry, Medical Device preferred.
  •     Working knowledge of 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, and relevant regulations (MDD, MDR etc.).
  •     APICS Certification preferred.

 

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

 

  •     MRP knowledge; work order management including discrete picking and/or backflushing; experience with cycle counting and inventory management; distribution and logistics
  •     Must have knowledge of bills of materials and routings, inventory control techniques, and ERP/MRP practices and techniques
  •     Ability to leverage, influence and/or engage others to accomplish projects
  •     Self-starter with the ability to quickly learn about new processes, projects, and requirements
  •     Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports / presentations and to negotiate Supplier Quality Agreements
  •     Solid organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail
  •     Advanced problem-solving skills and root cause analysis experience.
  •     Experience with various process-improvement methodologies, such as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
  •     Working knowledge of US and international medical device regulations, standards, and guidance documents. Including:
  •     21 CFR 820 US FDA Quality System Regulations
  •     ISO 13485:2016 Medical Devices – QMS – Requirements for Regulatory Purpose
  •     MDD 93/42/EEC Medical Device Directive (European)
  •     Regulation (EU) 2017/745 Medical Device Regulations
  •     Experience with applications such as, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and SAP (Preferred)
