Position Summary

The Facility Engineer is responsible for scheduling, troubleshooting and management of facility and machine maintenance functions. This includes supervising and coaching Maintenance Technicians. This role will perform engineering activities required to analyze, design, and plan operational improvement related to facility and equipment, and assess, implement, and coordinate preventative and adhoc maintenance activities. The individual will have oversight and the responsibility to execute projects and regular activities associated with a 13485 Medical Device facility. The Facility Engineer position is accountable for the delivery of targeted performance objectives, timetables, and spending limits. The individual will be a leader in lean and continuous improvement activities throughout the facility. 


Principal Responsibilities

•    Supervise and coach maintenance staff through communication and training programs.
•    Supervise work conducted by contractors, and service personnel to assure efficient coordination and completion of assigned projects as scheduled.
•    Specify, obtain bids, select and purchase required equipment, parts and contract installation services for assigned projects to meet installation schedules and requirements. 
•    Maintain working relationship with insurance inspectors, landlord and vendors and initiate prudent actions to mitigate facility risks.
•    Develop, implement, and monitor a strong preventive maintenance program utilizing the plant maintenance software. Maintain accuracy of the system and assure compliance to equipment and facilities PM schedules.
•    Create and maintain the appropriate engineering and maintenance records as required by the SOP’s and Quality system. Utilize the PM software program.
•    Monitor and control energy consumption and facilitate plans to effective usage .
•    Remain up-to-date on technology related to plant operation and equipment.
•    Lead and support lean and continuous improvement activities in the plant.
•    Create equipment user requirement specifications, obtain quotes from internal and/or external vendors, manage capital requests, and verify the functionality of the equipment.
•    Conduct Installation Qualifications independently and assist technicians and engineers in executing qualification protocols.
•    Develop and design fixtures and machine components.
•    Coordinate contracted janitorial services and manage inventory of janitorial supplies.
•    Coordinate utility supply and connection to manufacturing equipment
•    Maintain inventory of tools, machine components and safety equipment at prescribed levels.  Write purchase requisitions and track purchased items through SAP.
•    Responsible for the management of all site hazardous, non-hazardous and universal waste in accordance with federal and state regulations.  Maintain a Hazardous Waste Coordinator (HWC) designation by obtaining annual hazardous/toxic waste management and hazardous materials transportation certifications.
•    Accountable for the maintenance, operation certifications and inspection of the facility fire suppression systems.
•    Evaluate, develop and execute maintenance projects for the facility to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
•    As needed perform equipment and facility preventive maintenance & repairs.
•    As needed lead and assist Maintenance Technicians with troubleshooting equipment, electrical, mechanical and facility problems.
•    Properly update and document process according to QMS standards.
•    Drive a safety-driven culture
•    Attend and present on Value Stream meetings.
•    Other duties as assigned. 

Education / Experience Requirements

•    A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, required with Bachelors degree. Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical field preffered.
•    A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, required with Associate degree.  Associate degree in technical field required.
•    Experience in medical device manufacturing industry or manufacturing in a regulated manufacturing environment (ISO, FDA, etc.), preferred.

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

•    Good mechanical aptitude able to learn equipment and their operation.  Machine maintenance support where required including but not limited to Air Compressors, HVAC systems, Fire Suppression system, Manufacturing Equipment.
•    Lean manufacturing experience and Continuous Improvement methodology.
•    Experience writing and performing qualifications of equipment
•    Proficient in Solidworks and or comparable CAD software.
•    Excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills.
•    Ability to prioritize, work independently and manage multiple projects and responsivities.
•    Familiar with design controls, FDA regulation, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
•    Capable of reading / interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings. 
•    Expertise in electrical, mechanical, equipment and facility maintenance
