Interventional Urology – NeoTract is dedicated to developing innovative, minimally invasive and clinically effective devices that address unmet needs in the field of urology. Indicated for the treatment of symptoms of an enlarged prostate up to 100cc in men 45 years or older. As with any medical procedure, individual results may vary. Most common side effects are temporary and include pain or burning with urination, blood in the urine, pelvic pain, urgent need to urinate and/or the inability to control the urge.1 Rare side effects, including bleeding and infection, may lead to a serious outcome and may require intervention. Position Summary

The Vice President of Research & Development, Interventional Urology directs, administers, and coordinates all research and development activities in accordance with established policies, goals, and objectives.  As an integral member of the Teleflex Interventional Urology leadership team, this position reports to the President and General Manager of Teleflex’s Interventional Urology Business Unit (IUBU) and is responsible for positioning innovation and the deployment of relevant strategic technologies at the heart of our business - developing and aligning R&D strategies with organizational objectives.  This position requires strong innovation, new product development (pre-concept to successful launch) and leadership skills in the medical device industry. The person in this position must possess people and influencing skills, drive and determination to champion new projects and technologies with customers and to lead their team to successfully commercialize customer solutions, delivering in a timely manner. Additionally, this position will be responsible for successful navigation in a matrix organization, leading teams through change and driving projects (both organic and inorganic products) from concept to successful launch in a fast-paced, growth environment. 

Principal Responsibilities

•    Oversee and direct Research and Development efforts of the business unit toward efficient completion of the Company’s goals and objectives.
•    Direct and coordinate the planning, scheduling, and budgeting related to all R&D activities.
•    Develop and communicate annual departmental goals.
•    Partner with Marketing and Clinical/Medical representatives to lead the strategic planning and business development activities related to product innovation and product pipeline development for the business unit.
•    Ensure R&D efforts related to the development of new products and design modifications to existing products follow Design Control procedures.
•    Participate in strategic planning and business development processes.
•    Evaluate and assess new technologies
•    Partner with Legal to provide oversight and direction of the Company’s Intellectual Property and Patent Portfolio.
•    Interface with experts from outside sources, companies, and forums to maintain an understanding of new developments in medicine and engineering.
•    Partner with cross-functional teams and customers to ensure development and testing of prototypes meet market and customer requirements.
•    Provide guidance, development, and ongoing review of final reports for the development of regulatory submissions.
•    Manage a dynamic, high-achieving Research & Development team.
•    Participate in Management Reviews of the Quality System.
•    Participate in the development of the business unit standards and procedures.
•    Oversee the review of document changes for research and development impact.
•    Ensure compliance with department staff regarding job descriptions and training requirements.
•    Maintain design responsibility for post-market products.
•    Perform other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 15 years of medical device research and development experience and at least 10 years in a people leadership role. 
•    Advanced degree in engineering preferred.

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

•    Proven leadership in medical device research and development under Quality Systems that comply with ISO13485, MDD, and FDA Quality System Regulations.
•    Demonstrated experience setting a strategic vision and objectives for a dynamic engineering team.
•    Ability to represent cross-functional department interests effectively both internally and externally.
•    Ability to evaluate performance and motivate team members.
•    Ability to use problem-solving skills on both a managerial and technical level using engineering, personnel, and technology expertise.
•    Ability to manage a portfolio and multiple projects.
•    Demonstrated business acumen, executive presence, and communication skills.
