Position Summary

You are part of the front-end innovation team, whose singular focus is to drive purpose-driven innovation in Teleflex.
As Senior Principal Product Designer, you will not only be the subject-matter expert in front end pre-design control design and ideation but laying the foundation for overall product design practices, culture, and strategy across Teleflex. 
You are a self-directed leader with the expertise and confidence to evangelize for innovative ideas and assert a strategic role for product design and ideation at all levels of the organization.
Your success in this role requires strong leadership in providing vision and guidance that helps shape the future of design practices across all business units in Teleflex. 

Principal Responsibilities

•    Define vision, establish strategy, and lead complex, high impact front end projects, company-wide by driving innovation and supporting business goals.
•    Design and build workshops to deliver better and more creative design outputs for all Business Units. 
•    Lead workshops and design activities with diverse teams of engineers, researchers, product managers, and marketers to bring innovative products to market.
•    Drive design thinking within the larger organization and encourage various design-focused problem-solving methodologies.
•    Be a champion for creativity and design throughout the early exploration stages of new product development process and drives the execution of pre-design control best practices for ideation, prototyping, and visual design.
•    Lead through mentorship in effort to further the role of Design within the organization.
•    Lead the efforts in building Teleflex wide innovation management system.
•    Ability to distill and reframe problems, then define a framework for resolution, generating clear, elegant solutions for complex challenges. 
•    Participate in regular ideation design reviews and provide mentoring on best practices to visualize concepts better as well as maximize the volume of potential creative solutions.
•    Develop designs based upon low-fidelity sketches or written descriptions and translate those into beautiful high-fidelity mock-ups using Solidworks and other relevant tools.
•    Adhere to and ensure the adherence of Teleflex Code of Ethics, all Company policies, rules, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
•    Performs other duties as assigned by Management.

•    No immediate direct reports. May manage 1 or more employees in the future.

Education / Experience Requirements

•    BS/BA in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related discipline.
•    At least 10+ years of industry experience, preferably in Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent experience.
•    Versatile portfolio that demonstrates design research knowledge, strong visual communication skills, successful design process, and history of shipping innovative physical solutions. (We will ask to view your portfolio as part of the interview process)
•    A strong understanding of how creative designs need to be translated into manufacturable solutions at scale.
•    Strong facilitation skills leading groups through idea generation and decision-making processes.
•    Experience with a broad range of design techniques and methodology.
•    Proficiency designing in industry-standard tools such as Solidworks, Adobe Creative Cloud as well as the Microsoft Office suite.
•    Prior experience with biodesign and design thinking processes, preferred.
•    Experience working in a matrixed organization, preferred.
•    Experience presenting to senior leadership, preferred.
•    Experience in the medical device industry, preferred.
