Position Summary

The incumbent is a seasoned leader with broad and robust experience in packaging engineering, program management and people management. The individual will oversee the project portfolio supported by Global Packaging team for design, testing and qualification of sterile and non-sterile packaging for medical products. Team growth and development aligned with department strategy will be a prime focus. Key responsibilities will also include development of the project portfolio, resources, financial plan and timelines. Identify, lead, plan and execute strategic packaging projects in areas of innovation, cost, quality, compliance and process. Assess packaging procedures and processes and make improvements. Maintain state of art of compliance and act as a lead contact for process development, validation and implementation activities within Teleflex manufacturing sites, contract manufacturers or strategic suppliers as required. 

For the right candidate, this position may allow for remote office supported by routine on-site presence as needed. 

Principal Responsibilities

•    Manage the Global Packaging Team for development of best-in-class medical device packaging, specifications and processes with input from the packaging industry, physicians, marketing, quality and manufacturing adhering to the design control process. 
•    Act as a Principal level SME for all packaging projects ensuring development of world-class designs that effectively meet all aspects of innovation, compliance, cost and quality. 
•    Own and maintain department KPIs (key performance indicators). 
•    Assist in the establishment of strategic plans and objectives for Global Packaging. 
•    Identify, lead and support cost reduction opportunities by qualifying alternate packaging materials, process improvements, and packaging design optimization.
•    Department Interface with key stakeholders and senior management in R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales and Regulatory Affairs.
•    Provide technical leadership to packaging testing in the internal Teleflex Packaging Lab or with external testing services providers.
•    Oversee compliance issues including investigation of product complaints related to packaging to determine root cause and implement corrective action.
•    Represent Global Packaging in design and technical phase views.
•    Manage packaging assessments, review of industry standards updates, product regulatory submissions and/or limited market evaluations/clinical trials as required.
•    Ensure projects are developed and documented compliant with the Teleflex Quality System.
•    Adhere to and ensure the compliance of Teleflex’s Code of Ethics, all Company policies, rules, procedures and housekeeping standards.

Education / Experience Requirements

•    Bachelor of Science or Professional Engineer (PE) Certification – Engineering or technical discipline (Packaging Science or equivalent degree).
•    Min. 10 years of relevant experience (product design, machine design, manufacturing processes, medical device and/or pharmaceutical – e.g. Must have Co-op/Internship, general work) with a minimum 6+ years of direct people and program management.
•    Deep knowledge of medical device packaging techniques and ISO-11607 standards highly preferred.
•    Strong experience in developing world-class packaging designs based on state of art industry standards, voice of customer and design for manufacturing.
•    Good understanding of various sterilization methods, material compatibility and palletization methods for medical device packages.
•    Experience with leading strategic packaging projects in innovation, cost, quality, compliance or process highly preferred.
•    Experience in team growth and development.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills.
•    Team player with good interpersonal skills.
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computerized analysis applications.

•    Self-motivated, high energy, collaborative, positive attitude individual with the initiative and drive for timely completion of goals.
•    Able to travel domestically and internationally.
