Position Summary
Interfacing with cross functional teams, this Research and Development Mechanical Drafter provides department support for creation of new and revisions to existing Computer-Aided Design (CAD) solid models and drawings. This position is responsible for the creation and compliance of design control documentation in the PLM System (Agile).
Principal Responsibilities
1. Create CAD models from existing detailed drawings and parts utilizing existing drawings, CT Scans of existing and dimensioning existing parts.
2. Perform reverse engineering from point cloud data for legacy components that do not currently have CAD models or detailed drawings.
3. Revise and update existing drawings reflecting design changes, in collaboration with associated team members to ensure consistent documentation of the project.
4. Review blueprints, plans, specifications, and other customer documentation if service is requested by the application engineer or project manager.
5. Maintain notes, design calculations and other documentation (like drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters for future reference.
6. Collaborate with engineers and designers to create complex product, tooling and equipment CAD models and drawings from sketches, marked up prints, and manual measurement of physical part samples.
7. Collaborate with engineers and designers to detect and correct discrepancies in drawings and designs.
8. Provide technical direction for best CAD practices and drafting standards.
9. Assist in the training and continued instruction of new drafting personnel on CAD systems and department procedures.
10. Check drawings made by other drafting personnel.
11. Recommend process improvements to work instructions and ECO/CO process.
12. Other duties as required relating to CAD database maintenance, PDM, etc.
Education / Experience Requirements
1. Associate degree or completion of a technical trade school in CAD, drafting or related field.
2. Minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience: or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
1. Proficient in SolidWorks software.
2. Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 2018, Y14.1 2020, Y14.2 2014, and Y14.3 2012
3. Experience with point cloud data and manipulation preferred.
4. Excellent communication skills: interpersonal, listening, oral, and written.
5. Skilled in PC usage and associated software, including Microsoft Office.
6. Knowledgeable of standard drafting best practices and procedures.
7. Able to work with minimal supervision, efficiently schedule, and manage time.
8. Ideally has worked within SolidWorks Project Data Management (PDM) system in the past.
9. General knowledge of manufacturing technologies: milling, drilling, turning, EDM, deburring, welding, broaching, stamping, extrusion, injection molding, etc.
10. General knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies and materials: FDM, SLS, SLA, Polyjet, etc.
