Position Summary
This role supports day-to-day analytical laboratory operations in support of R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Biocompatibility groups within Analytical Chemistry Shared Services. The technician performs routine laboratory activities including sample preparation, basic analytical testing, instrument setup, documentation, inventory management, and general laboratory support activities in accordance with FDA, ISO 17025, and internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
The role assists analytical staff with execution of established test methods involving HPLC, GC, FTIR, GPC, and related laboratory instrumentation. The technician is responsible for maintaining accurate records, following Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and supporting safe and efficient laboratory operations.
Principal Responsibilities
• Prepare samples, reagents, standards, and solvents according to approved laboratory procedures and work instructions.
• Perform routine laboratory testing and support activities under the direction of laboratory analysts or supervisors.
• Operate laboratory instrumentation including balances, pipettes, centrifuges, FTIR systems, HPLC systems, GC systems, and related equipment following approved procedures.
• Perform routine instrument startup, shutdown, cleaning, and basic maintenance activities.
• Label, organize, log, and store incoming laboratory samples and materials.
• Maintain laboratory notebooks, worksheets, logbooks, and electronic records in accordance with GDP requirements.
• Support laboratory inventory management including chemicals, solvents, consumables, and PPE supplies.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization in compliance with laboratory safety requirements.
• Dispose of laboratory waste according to site procedures and safety requirements.
• Escalate equipment issues, atypical results, or procedural deviations to laboratory supervision.
• Support laboratory qualification, method validation, and operational activities as assigned.
• Participate in required training, cross-training, and competency assessments.
Education / Experience Requirements
• Associate degrees in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline preferred; equivalent laboratory experience may be considered.
• 0–2 years of laboratory experience in an analytical, manufacturing, quality, or scientific environment preferred.
• Basic familiarity with analytical laboratory equipment and techniques preferred.
• Experience working in a regulated environment (medical device, pharmaceutical, or similar) preferred but not required.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
• Basic understanding of laboratory safety and chemical handling practices.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
• Good organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to perform repetitive laboratory tasks with consistency and accuracy.
• Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Excel and laboratory software systems.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new laboratory techniques and procedures.
