Position Summary
The Director of Training is responsible for developing a comprehensive BU training strategy and directing its implementation to continually enhance the AEM organization effectiveness to achieve the strategic business goals and enhance overall business unit’s effectiveness. As an integral part of the (AEM BU), this individual will work in partnership with the BU’s commercial team to ensure optimal field communication and skill development for all sales team members of the BU, with added reach and partnership with leadership to support creation and delivery of other programs that surface beyond sales. This individual is responsible for the day-to-day management, development, and leadership of the AEM Training team. Those may involve partnership with teammates from organizational development and human resources. The position is in-house located in the Morrisville office; this position is not remote. Candidate must live in or relocate to the Raleigh/Durham area.
Principal Responsibilities
• Develops, socializes and executes a comprehensive Strategic Plan that aligns and supports the overall AEM BU startegic Pillars and direction and improves overall professional development and effectiveness.
• Develop, coordinate and implement training and development strategies to meet the goals of the Anesthesia and Emergency Medicine business unit. Align BU’s training initiatives with training strategies that meets the needs of new hires (0-3 months), current employees (3-18 months) and tenured AEM staff.
• Assess current training programs, tools, instructional design, learning platforms and modify content and approach based on best in class practices.
• Manage the Field Training and Classroom Training Programs to include establishing criteria for trainer selection, yearly competency testing and developmental programs for trainers.
• Develop and execute a series of training metrics (KPI’s) and feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement and relevancy of all training program content.
• Demonstrate excellent organizational and project management skills with a keen attention to detail; Possess the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Enhance communication process with clear expectations, schedules, location of content and schedules to improve the user experience.
• Responsible for developing and managing all aspects of the sales training budget including vendor management, SOW, PO, and accruals within company procedures.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure a complete understanding of mid to long-term learning objectives that align with talent acquisition, development, and retention strategies to deliver impactful human capital outcomes.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of learning and development resources in the learning management system (LMS) to ensure user engagement as well as accurate offerings, catalogs, assignments and assessments to comply with all relevant compliance and reporting requirements.
• Develop and support multiple platforms to develop continuous and flexible learning and development opportunities including on-line learning, classroom learning, workshops and verbalization, KOL led learning and a variety of instructional design outputs.
• Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, KOLs, and Clinical Affairs in order to organize and conduct national and regional speaker-driven skills labs including cadaver courses, proctored learning and other advance courses.
• Define critical competency requirements and methodology for competency assessments across all commercial BU segments. Provide needs analysis and learning assesments across all commercial functions.
• Research and review medical articles and studies, general sales training materials and market information to evaluate suitability and update training programs. Stay current with medical procedures and trends to implement the latest market and clincial trends into the training and development programs.
• Support of all key AEM BU commercial meetings and events
• Adhere to and ensure the compliance of Teleflex’s Code of Ethics, all Company policies, rules, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
Education / Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in training, organizational development, human resources, instructional design, adult education, or a related field. Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership/Organizational Design, or Education preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive business experience, preferably including human resources talent development, technical operations/training, medical device/services.
• Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to address change management challenges and experience implementing global programs.
• Minimum of 8 years in instructional system design, technical training, and at least 5 years of leading and managing a team.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and techniques of adult education and accelerated learning concepts for curriculum and training design.
• Strong foundation with learning technologies including developing courses that will be hosted on LMS (Learning Management System)
• Service training design and delivery experience, including multi-channel delivery and tools (e.g., Onsite classroom, virtual, field based, gamification)
• Strong public speaking, written communication skills, and organization/project management skills required.
• Self-directed, able to work independently and ability to handle multiple projects concurrently & function in a fast paced, high growth environment.
• Proficiency with computer technology and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including IPhone and IPad platforms.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
• Ability to handle difficult conversations/situations along with excellent communication, customer service, and presentation skills
• Strong clinical accumen with a history of utilizing basic A&P as a major part of delivering educational programs.
• Skilled in influencing and driving change within cross-functional teams without formal authority
• Interact with others through effective, verbal and written communication. Strong verbal communication and presentation skills of clinical knowledge for prehospital care providers
