Position Summary
The Test Services (TS) Metrologist is responsible for performing accurate and efficient dimensional measurements and physical tests of medical device assemblies and components. This role is also responsible for the development and documentation of measurement methods and the training of others in the use of advanced and handheld measurement equipment.
Principal Responsibilities
• Efficiently perform measurements using a mixture of handheld and advanced tools to support First Article, Design Verification and Process Validation studies
• Properly complete all quality records created during inspections
• Read prints, understand tolerances and dimensions including both linear and GD & T approaches
• Assist in the development and documentation of metrology methods
• Train technicians and inspectors on techniques and methods
• Perform equipment qualification activities (IQ) and method validation (GRR) activities
• Complete testing to support test equipment qualifications
• Provide feedback to engineers on measurement method selection and applicability
• Execute testing required to support Test Lab Requests.
Note: 80% of this job involves direct R&D activities.
Education / Experience Requirements
• High School Diploma required.
• AA degree preferred.
• Six years of relevant experience required.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
• Experience with measurement system analysis/GRR.
• Proficiency with electronic/optical measuring tools such as MicroVu, SmartScope, CT scan & point cloud analysis, etc.
• Experience training other employees on established methods
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings
• Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
• Ability to use hand inspection tools (ruler, gage pins, calipers, etc.) and obtain accurate and repeatable results.
• Detail orientation and the ability to understand and follow written established process diligently.
• 20/20 vision (corrected).
• Color vision.
