Interventional - The Interventional business unit at Teleflex offers innovative medical devices that are used to diagnose and treat coronary and peripheral vascular diseases. We place a strategic emphasis on complex coronary and peripheral interventions, vascular access, bone access, specialty biologic treatments and cardiac assist. Position Summary
The R&D Supervisor leads and manages a team of Technicians, overseeing recruitment, development, and performance in alignment with Teleflex core values. This role ensures efficient resource allocation, task prioritization, and coordination to support R&D engineering projects. Key responsibilities include ensuring lab safety, lab organization, driving continuous improvement, managing resources and equipment, and fostering team collaboration.
Principal Responsibilities
• Responsible for recruiting, hiring of and managing of R&D Technicians including, compensation, performance appraisals, constructive feedback, training, and employee development all in alignment with Teleflex core values.
• Coordinates tasks and responsibilities of Technicians to support R&D Engineering teams and projects.
• Prioritizes and schedules team resources based on project needs and team members’ skillsets.
• Maintains lab organization by leveraging 5S principles and driving continuous improvement
• Ensures lab safety by maintaining equipment safety standards and implementing training procedures for safe operation
• Manages lab equipment, including tooling, manufacturing aids, gauges, and inspection tools. Facilitates and coordinates the selection, purchase, qualification, calibration, and maintenance of new and existing lab equipment
• Promotes collaborative communication among Technicians, teams, and cross-functional partners
• Provides technical direction and expertise to technicians on their projects and task assignments.
• Collaborates with teams to research and implement new technologies and processes for projects
• Promotes design and/or selection of lab equipment to reduce costs and improve quality.
• Coordinate with Operations, Production and Test Lab for Engineering builds: Characterization, DV, PVAL, prototyping, building, and testing for R&D project teams.
• Facilitate and support implementation of Engineering DV pilot lines, and PVAL Production lines for R&D, including planning, setup, and training of manufacturing operators.
• Support manufacturing line continuous improvement strategies to improve quality, reduce cost, minimize waste, and increase throughput with manufacturing sites.
• Oversees and subject matter experts in in creating and controlling MFG documentation including Manufacturing Process (MP), Travelers (RT), special work orders (SWO), Test Methods (TM), and Inspection Methods (IP) for Engineering builds
Education / Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s or technical degree in related field, degree preferred or 10 years of directly relevant technical experience.
• 2-5 years of supervision/management of technical roles preferred.
• 4 + years of experience in design and development of medical devices
• 7 + years of experience in document control using PLM and ERP software, Oracle Agile/SAP preferred.
• Experience and Proficient in MS Office applications e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.
Specialized Skills / Other Requirements
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient at communicating effectively across functions to achieve common goals.
• Ability to manage dynamic workload and prioritize small and large tasks efficiently.
• Working knowledge and experience implementing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Advanced knowledge of technologies related to catheter design and construction, such as extrusion, injection molding, adhesive, thermal bonding, welding, core winding, and reflow processing.
• Experience with and working knowledge of ISO9000, FDA requirements.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with Good Manufactuing Practices and procedures.
• Advanced knowledge and experience with IQ, OQ, and PQ validation, DVT and TMV testing of medical devices including creating supporting documentation.
• Working knowledge of mechanical drawings, product requirements and engineering specifications.
• Attention to detail. Ability to manipulate small pieces of data with accuracy and focus, identifying information that does not fit and implement solutions.
• High mechacial aptitude and strong problem solving/decision-making skills. Ability to think criticaly and implement solutions independently.
