Position Summary

This Mansfield, MA based Engineering Program Manager is responsible for the planning, management, and execution of Product Development and Sustaining projects for the Teleflex Medical OEM Performance Fibers business unit. Scope of projects range from line extensions within current products/capabilities through custom suture product development, manufacturing transfers, cost improvements, label changes, material or supplier changes, and other sustaining or development projects. The program manager is responsible for managing projects independently, as required, as well as managing programs across multiple project leads and cross-functional teams to ensure proper resource management, and that all project objectives are met, on time.

Principal Responsibilities

•    Establish and define technical scope and objectives for product development projects.
•    Develop project plans, specify the project goals, strategy and schedules, while identifying areas of risk, contingency plans, cost/budget estimates and allocation of resources or capital.
•    Coordinate pre-production process development, prototyping, and pilot manufacturing needs for assigned new product project(s).  This includes coordinating the efforts of both supplier personnel and other Teleflex personnel as needed.
•    Establish staffing requirements and define necessary resources when needed to complete projects on time and within budget. 
•    May be required to manage, support and develop direct reports.
•    Assure successful new product introduction and transfer of production processes between facilities.
•    Direct and coordinate activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget, while documenting and maintaining design control standards.
•    Work with cross functional leadership of Regulatory, Sales, Marketing, Sterility Assurance, Biocompatibility, and other shared resources, to drive success and adhere to committed project schedules.
•    Specify and purchase production tooling and process equipment to manufacture new devices and components, and coordinates participation by suppliers and other Teleflex personnel.
•    Assure effective implementation of manufacturing processes as required, both in-house and at suppliers.  Assures adequate process capability for these processes.
•    Determine cost of devices and parts, and related tooling and process equipment.  Assists in the preparation of capital purchase requests and justification. 
•    Assure that prototypes and early stage devices and parts are manufactured to specifications, and documented in a DHR.
•    Conduct hands-on product testing and document test results as required.
•    Investigate and resolve technical problems involving product performance and/or production processes, including determination of whether a device or component was manufactured to specifications. 
•    Generate and recommend detailed design features and/or design changes to improve manufacturability.
•    Understand & fully implement design modifications to medical devices and components. 
•    Prepare project status reports to keep management, customers, and others informed of project status, related issues, including changes or contingency plans that may be required.
•    Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice as well as should be effective and innovative in problem solving and issue resolution skills.
•    Recognize and respond to change requests outside of the original specification to identify potential scope creep, costs associated with change including delays or impacts that may be present and communicate such impact to both the customer and management. 
•    Develop and maintain technical / project documentation aligned with design control procedures.
•    Collaborate with; quality assurance to develop test methods and maintain compliance within quality system, regulatory to be compliant, marketing to establish launch criteria, sales for forecasting and  Manufacturing to ensure projects builds and deliverables are achieved according to project plan.
 

Education / Experience Requirements

•    BS in Engineering discipline, Mechanical Engineering preferred
•    Minimum of 5 years of related Medical Device experience preferred.
•    Minimum of 5 years experience leading employee teams and managing projects
•    Broad engineering knowledge in manufacturing operations, including new product introduction, cost reduction, and quality improvements. 
•    PMP certification is a plus.

•    Proven ability to influence across boundaries, drive collaboration and lead change.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project required. Solid Works or other CAD is a plus.
•    Capable of working independently, yet quickly and clearly communicate issues, risks and risk mitigation plans to company management.
•    A quick learner and an effective listener, learning and understanding customer needs across a broad range of end use medical applications.
•    Strong initiative and sense of urgency about meeting scheduled project deliverables.
•    Demonstrate creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices.
•    Organize, evaluate, and coordinate engineering studies with professional, technical, and clerical staff.
•    Analyze complex, technical and administrative problems and adopt an effective course of action.
•    Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
•    Experience with manufacturing/plant transfers including processes and equipment.
•    Draw solutions from a wide range of experience
