Position Summary

The R&D Engineer is responsible for the project under R&D of Anesthesia and Emergency medicine products. Assignments may include work for other products within the Teleflex portfolio. Experience and background requirements should focus on medical devices. This position generally has product and process development responsibility, including organizing and managing multiple projects and insuring they are completed in a timely manner.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Acts as product technology group owner for assigned product lines.
  • Serve as a R&D technical lead representative in integration core teams. Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Regulatory to understand technical targets and design control systems.
  • Serves as project leader for assigned projects; responsible to follow up on all aspects of projects.
  • Resolves complex process/product development and manufacturing issues; independently takes lead of working cross functional teams.
  • Prepares formal documentation of the product designs, risk analysis, product specifications, market specifications, etc. according to established product development procedures. Initiates formal reviews to get approved per said procedures.
  • Conducts research on projects associated with the design and/or design modifications of medical devices, components, models, or mechanisms.
  • Develops, maintains, and publishes product and process development plans for assigned projects with critical milestones and timelines.
  • Develops and coordinates the running protocols for the validations of new or modified devices or components, including validations of the design, manufacturing process, assembly, packaging, and sterilization where applicable (internal Teleflex facilities or third-party vendors).
  • Primary R&D interface with operations for cost improvement projects, vendor materials, and finished goods qualifications.
  • International efforts are key, as role supports new product development and sustaining engineering efforts for the manufacturing plants as applicable. Teleflex is a global organization with manufacturing facilities in the US, Mexico, Czech Republic, Malaysia, India and Germany.
  • Investigates and resolves technical production problems involving product performance.
  • Coordinates the product design and development process with appropriate support departments such as engineering, regulatory, documentation, tooling, manufacturing and external vendor.
  • Prepares or follows up on preparation of design drawings, specifications, estimates of costs, mainframe updates, etc.
  • Consults with sales staff or customer on product requirements where design or manufacturing problems are involved.
  • Works with manufacturing on process and assigns projects and priorities to ensure project goals are achieved.
  • Develops assembly methods and procedures; creates engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinates changes in process, tooling and equipment identified to positively impact the manufacturing process, while staying within design control guidelines.
  • Coordinates the reporting on project statuses in formal periodic project review meetings, which include cost reduction, progress, and capital spending and expense status.
  • Participates actively in continuous quality improvement activities through compliance with safety standards.
  • Demonstrates professional responsibilities by cooperating with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Perform any other relevant and related responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time as required by superior.

Education / Experience Requirements

  • Possession of bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the design of devices in medical fields. Prior work in testing, validation and sustaining engineering is a plus, with close partnerships with manufacturing teams.

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate (written and verbal) in English and Malay language.
  • Strong project management, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong in SolidWorks CAD software and drawing skills. (MUST)
  • Good knowledge in Automation development (Mechanical & Electrical)
  • Good knowledge in Injection molding, extrusion and part assembly process and methods.
  • Good interpersonal skills that include working well with internal and external teams.
  • Strong analytical skill-interpret and make data driven decisions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks to meet business needs with minimum supervision.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
