Position Summary

The Equipment Engineer for automation design is responsible for designing, developing and implementing automated systems that enhance manufacturing efficiency, product quality and overall operational performance. This role requires strong technical expertise in mechanical, electrical and control system engineering, along with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. The engineer will support automation initiatives from concept through commissioning, ensuring optimized performance, safety compliance and long term equipment reliability.

Principal Responsibilities

•    Design and develop automation solutions including mechanical fixtures, robotic systems, control panels and automated machinery.
•    Create engineering drawings, schematics, functional specifications and technical documentation for new and existing automation equipment.
•    Conduct feasibility studies and concept design evaluations for proposed automation projects.
•    Integrate mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, robotic and software components into complete automated systems.
•    Develop and execute system testing, debugging, FAT/SAT, and commissioning procedures.
•    Validate performance of automated systems to ensure quality, reliability and compliance with engineering standards.
•    Analyze machine performance, cycle time, downtime and quality issues to drive improvements.
•    Troubleshoot automation-related issues (mechanical, electrical, PLC, robotics, sensors) to restore normal operations.
•    Implement upgrades to improve equipment reliability, throughput and safety.
•    Work closely with Process, Equipment, Manufacturing, Quality, IT, and R&D teams to deliver automation solutions aligned with operational needs.
•    Support manufacturing teams through training, documentation, and technical guidance for automated equipment operation.
•    Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, RCA, and FMEA methodologies.
•    Manage automation projects including scope development, scheduling, vendor coordination and implementation planning.
•    Drive cost reduction and productivity improvement efforts through smart automation strategies.
•    Ensure all automation systems comply with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
•    Maintain accurate project documentation, risk assessments, change control records, and engineering specifications.
•    Support audits and ensure adherence to quality management systems.
•    Perform other duties as assigned or necessitated by business conditions or changes.

Education / Experience Requirements

•    3–5 years of hands on experience in automation design, system integration or automated equipment development.
•    Experience in manufacturing, high volume production or equipment engineering environments is preferred.
•    Proficiency in automation design involving mechanical, electrical, software and control systems.
•    Experience with robotics, motion control systems, actuators, machine vision and sensor integration. 
•    Skilled in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent for mechanical design. 
•    Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet). 
•    Ability to perform system troubleshooting and root cause analysis across multi discipline systems
•    Strong analytical skills with experience using engineering tools such as FMEA, SPC, DOE, and RCA methodologies. 
•    Ability to diagnose complex automation issues and implement effective technical solutions.
•    Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills for cross functional collaboration. 
•    Ability to manage multiple automation projects with good planning and time management skills. 
•    Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team based engineering environment
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related technical field.
•    Master’s Degree is an added advantage (optional).
