Position Summary

A Controls Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing automation and control systems in industrial, commercial, or manufacturing environments. They work with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), sensors, and other automation equipment to ensure optimal system performance.

Principal Responsibilities

•    Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic control system issues, including wiring, circuit boards, and control panels.
•    Install, configure, and troubleshoot control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and industrial networks.
•    Perform routine maintenance and calibration of automation equipment and sensors to ensure proper functionality.
•    Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to troubleshoot and install control systems.
•    Collaborate with engineers, electricians, and maintenance teams to improve system efficiency and reliability.
•    Monitor and optimize control system performance, making recommendations for upgrades and improvements.
•    Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for control systems.
•    Document repairs, maintenance tasks, and system modifications for future reference.

Education / Experience Requirements

•    2+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or electrical maintenance.
•    Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred, but not required.
•    Experience in industries such as manufacturing, HVAC, automotive, or food processing is a plus.
•    Experience working in a highly regulated environment preferred.
 

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

•    Technical knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.), HMIs, SCADA systems, and control circuits.
•    Experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting in industrial automation.
•    Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, and motor controls.
•    Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Excellent attention to detail to ensure all systems work correctly, and safely, minimizing the risk of malfunction.
•    Good written and verbal communication skills to report issues and explain complex technical issues clearly to colleagues.
•    Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
•    Proficiency in using test instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and loop calibrators.
•    Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
