Position Summary

The EHS Senior Engineer (Internally referred to as Site EHS Advisor) advises, audits, coordinates, assists, and consults with the Site Leads, and site risk owners in planning, establishing, and maintaining effective EHS management. The incumbent will be responsible for initiating EHS policies, procedures, and programs that are in line with federal, state, local & Teleflex EHS regulations, standards, and requirements.  This will be accomplished through the development and facilitation of various activities with other departments, outside agencies, and the general public. Effectively collaborate and communicate with the site’s various departments, Site Lead, and Regional EHS Manager on the above.  

Principal Responsibilities

•    Coordinates with Site Leads and site risk owners to develop, implement and maintain the site’s EHS Management System, known hereafter as the Core Management System (CMS), in line with the Teleflex Global EHS Manual.  Both the site CMS and Global EHS Manual are aligned with the International Management Standards ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
•    Assist in developing, implementing, and continuously improving site EHS policies & procedures and work instructions.
•    Reinforce and drive Teleflex’s EHS vision of Zero Harm to people and the environment.
•    Continually monitor the site’s CMS and associated tools to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and Teleflex Global EHS requirements, standards, and EHS best practices.
•    Manage projects, programs, and permits related but not limited to; wastewater, stormwater & hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, community right-to-know reporting, and other applicable environmental regulations. 
•    Prepare various annual environmental reports as required by local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring such reports are accurate and submitted on time. Examples include; hazardous waste reports, federal toxic chemical release reports, and other environmental-related community right-to-know reports.
•    Assist the site management team to ensure capital projects and major process changes appropriately identify and address EHS risk as per Teleflex projects’ EHS management guidelines and EHS management of change (MOC) principles.
•    Identify, investigate, report, and effectively communicate all critical EHS nonconformances (NCs) and areas for improvement. Help site management evaluates the significance of EHS concerns, determine the source of variance, and specify steps using the hierarchy of controls methodology in correcting the condition or the need for further controls.
•    Guide and participate with the site EHS committee teams, EHS grassroots groups, and associated regular meetings.
•    Assist the site management team, EHS committee, and risk owners to identify and report EHS NCs and Teleflex-classified EHS incidents.  Monitor and promote acceptable EHS incident investigations verifying adequate determination of root cause and associated corrections and corrective actions.  
•    Work with the Site Lead’s to develop and assign incident investigation teams and report findings.
•    Develops and implement site-specific EHS training plan and training presentation material.
•    Develops, utilizes, and monitors the site’s EHS compliance calendar to warrant all federal, state, local & internal Teleflex Global EHS requirements, and associated deadlines are met.
•    Manages & continuously improves the site’s industrial hygiene program by developing and implementing associated monitoring plans, documenting findings & communicating results.
•    Work closely with site management and risk owners in carrying out their EHS roles and responsibilities in implementing corporate-driven EHS initiatives.
•    Develops, gathers, analyzes, and reports metrics to the Site Lead’s, Regional EHS Manager, and Global EHS Department regarding EHS performance.
•    Aid in the understanding, management, and implementation of the site’s EHS Improvement register (EHSIR), incident register (IR), and monthly Global EHS Site Scorecard.
•    Lead professionals and/or project teams to develop, implement & manage EHS, sustainability, industrial hygiene programs, and Teleflex policies.

 

Education / Experience Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree or post-graduate level with a core focus closely related to EH&S management and 5+ years of EH&S management experience or a Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate level with an Engineering or Manufacturing focus and 10 years of EH&S management experience.
•    Occupational Safety & Health Professional Certifications; CSP Certification (US) or CRSP Certification (Canada) or Chartered status with IOSH (EU), Preferred. 
 

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES cont.:

•    Evaluate and act upon new environmental & safety regulations. Ensures compliance with EHS regulations and Teleflex standards; follows emerging EHS regulations and issues.
•    Help to initiate the development of proactive Sustainability programs including minimizing waste, energy, and water usage
•    Negotiate and secure contracts to ensure compliant hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal.
•    Verify certifications of hazardous waste treatment.  
•    Primary contact for regulatory agencies such as EPA and OSHA for inspections, permitting, and reporting.
•    Monitor and direct the facility regarding compliance with all existing and any new EHS regulatory permits & submittals; EPA, OSHA, etc.
•    Proactively identifies potential EHS hazards through risk assessments, Gemba walks, inspections, audits, etc., and helps guide risk owners to ensure timely and appropriate immediate corrections and associated final corrective actions are implemented when hazards are identified.
•    Works with site Management to incorporate EHS into already established site programs, procedures, and metrics, where applicable. (Ex; 5S / Lean, Continuous Improvement Projects, KPIs, shift meetings, etc.).
 

SPECIALIZED SKILLS / OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

•    Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, standards, and best practices (EPA, DOT, OSHA, NFPA, ANSI)
•    Strong knowledge and experience with office-related applications; Microsoft Office suite, teleconference software (Skype, Webex, MS Teams), and data visualization Software (Tableau, Power BI).
•    Ability to source and interpret relevant, published best practice controls and standards before offering advice
•    Experience with EHS-related software a plus (Gensuite)
•    Occupational Health / Safety Hazard and Environmental Aspects identification, HOC corrective action identification, and resolution skillsets (Performing Risk Assessments)
•    Incident Investigation and Root Cause analysis skillset
•    Clear and analytical thinking facilitating assessment of both EH&S and wider business risk
•    Confidence and effective decision-making regarding escalations, notifications, and where justified: whistleblowing.
•    Strong project management skills.

•    Excellent organization and time management skills
•    Ability to lead projects from conception to completion
•    Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
•    Ability to perform ~ 50-50% sedentary and mobile job duties.
