Position Summary

The Engineering Manager will report to the Senior Director of Engineering for the OEM Division and be responsible for managing, planning and coordinating manufacturing and product development engineering activities. This position plays a vital role as a member of the Jaffrey plant leadership team and will be instrumental in leading continuous improvement efforts, process efficiency improvements and lean manufacturing. Accountable for the development, design, and improvement of products in conformance with applicable regulations and quality systems requirements. This person will focus on the improvement and optimisation of the core fluoropolymer related processes in a manner that improves both the quality and yield of these key site processes. Also, is responsible for the selection or design of all special production machinery and tooling necessary to maintain manufacturing operations at competitive levels. Providing leadership to the engineering groups, the role is focused on exceeding plant objectives and supporting the overall operations of the business. 

Principal Responsibilities

•    Serves as a member of the Facility’s Operating Management Team and contributes through functional expertise, counsel, and experience with meeting current and long-range business strategies and plans.
•    Acts as a liaison between Engineering, Quality, Operations and Customer Service to meet or exceed customer and business expectations.
•    Communicate and act as liaison with other departments to facilitate engineering support to the facility and customers and prepare written/computer reports concerning engineering.
•    Plans, conducts, and directs product development and manufacturing engineering projects to support manufacturing processes which are difficult and complex in nature, necessitating the application of engineering knowledge and Lean Manufacturing skills.
•    Administers an engineering program of high technical competence and judgment, ensuring sound technical medical device engineering. May originate and apply new and unique engineering methods and procedures – Lean, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, process FEMA’s, etc.
•    Responsible for product and process development, launch and support including: contract review, prototype development, pre-production operations, pilot production lots, transfer to full production and on-going support.
•    Perform those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the engineering operations, including provision for the selection and employee counseling and motivation, meeting organization goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating, and measuring the work performed within the engineering group.
•    Supervise, coordinate, coach, mentor, and review the work of assigned staff.
•    Create tailored development plans for direct reports to improve skills sets and competency in line with the site and individual’s needs. Focus on creating an environment where learning, competency development and experiential learning is enouraged and recognised.
•    Administer company rules, regulations, policies and ethics governing employment.
•    Maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
•    Ensure Quality and EHS policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
•    Perform other duties as assigned or necessitated by business conditions or changes.
•    Light travel to customers and suppliers.
 

Education / Experience Requirements

•    B.S. Degree in Engineering
•    At least 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. This would include experience in the management of people and hands on experience supporting manufacturing processes. Ideally at least 5 years of this experience was in a regulated enviornment
•    Computer literate with Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
•    Experience with process characterisation and optimisation. Knowledge of validation and verification activity an advantage.
•    Strong team building and communication skills
•    A disciplined approach to project management and a demonstrated understanding and ability to identify and plan the management of technical and other risks as part of their project management skillset.
•    Experience in Lean Manufacturing
•    Application of 6 Sigma or other similar structured improvement methodologies in a manufacturing setting
•    CAD/CAM experience an advantage
 

Specialized Skills / Other Requirements

•    Must be a self-motivated and driven leader. The ability to understand the motives and objectives of the business, the big picture.  Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively carry out responsibilities and to develop and motivate others.
•    Has the skills and experience to organise and manage large scale process optimisation and improvement programs. This will involve overseeing and managing targeted 6-18 month projects that are focus on optimising legacy manufacturing process with a view to Improving product quality, consistency and yield. 
•    Ability to scale and integrate new and optimised manufacturing processes into the site manufacturing platform. This requires skills in the evaluation of new technology and an ability to adapt that technology towards the site and customers specific needs.
•    A competence in statistical analysis particularily in relation to process analysis and validation type activity.
•    Understand the key drivers impacting the business and from this understanding have the ability to generate strategic business plans based on key business drivers and cascade business plans to actionable departmental projects and tasks.
•    Position requires regular exercise of decision making, problem solving, and policy or procedure interpretation skills.  
•    Understanding of Finance - profit and loss and balance sheet and an understanding of cost management and control.
•    Ability to generate appropriate relationships with customers and influence them in business discussions. Also an understanding of the need to balance customer requirements with Teleflex business needs.
•    Understands production equipment and processes and is able to evaluate the need for additions or modfications to equipment or processes.
•    Attendance and flexibility in working schedule is required due to the expectations and variety of workloads and the teams work schedules.  
•    Understanding and appreciation of Teleflex ethics standards
